Hello fellow clarinetists,
My name is Heather Roche, and I’m taking the lead on the new Clarinet platform at tonebase.
I’m thrilled to be sharing with you one of the most comprehensive, engaging resources for learning the clarinet on the Internet. Our courses are taught by some of the best — and some of my favorite — clarinet players in the world. And while we’ll be adding new courses monthly, I’m confident that the resources you’ll already find on tonebase clarinet will radically improve your playing!
Clarinet fundamentals are at the core of our project. The challenges of breathing and articulation, and a clear understanding of how the embouchure, tongue, and throat work together, are so critical for creating a good sound and having a fluid, natural technique. We want you to get the most out of your clarinet by experiencing the best teachings on these subjects.
For example, you can study:
- The anatomy of the embouchure with Kim Luevano,
- How to balance air and articulation when starting notes with Michael Wayne, or
- How to design the perfect warmup for you with Robert Spring.
Then, you can go on to study audition preparation and orchestral excerpts with Kilian Herold and refine your clarion and altissimo ranges with Stephanie Zelnick.
All of these courses, and many more, are available now on tonebase Clarinet. Click here to sign up for a free 14-day trial and see for yourself how tonebase can accelerate your clarinet progress.
These courses were rigorously designed by our amazing teaching artists to deliver concrete, actionable answers to crucial questions, such as:
How can you start improving your clarinet playing right now?
How does an improved understanding of your instrument's mechanics enhance your sound? And…
How can your awareness of your body's role, as a wind player, improve your technique?
You'll find answers to these questions and more. Fundamentals alone, however, are not all that we need to make music.
The clarinet has some of the most beautiful repertoire and we’ll be diving into all of it. You’ll be able to study:
- Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with David Shifrin,
- Rossini’s Introduction, Theme and Variations with Mariam Adam,
- Finzi’s Clarinet Concerto with Emma Johnson, and
- Saint-Saëns’ Clarinet Sonata with Anna Hashimoto.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. We’ll have more great courses coming all the time.
While we will continue to grow and add courses monthly, I’m already confident you’ll find resources here to up-level your playing. Whether you’re a beginner, a hobbyist, a student, or a seasoned pro, I want tonebase to be your home for learning the clarinet online and connecting with the clarinet community!
You’re about to discover a goldmine for enriching your musical pursuits and igniting your imagination. I can’t wait to meet you as part of the tonebase community and to see how your playing develops!
Wishing you deep breaths and perfect reeds,
Heather Roche
