Introduction
In this introductory lesson, Kilian Herold makes a case for giving our scale practice great attention and takes a look at how important scales and arpeggios are to our repertoire. Mozart, Brahms, Weber - these are composers who love scales and so we should love them too!
Musical Meaning and the First Octave
In this lesson, Kilian looks at the one octave F major scale: the easiest scale on the clarinet and the perfect starting point for discussing breath, control and most importantly --- musical meaning.
Challenges of the Second Octave
Now we are extending into the second octave and looking at how that changes things in our scale practice. How can we use vowel transitions to improve our tone in the second register? What role does the temperature of air play? And how can we then take what we learn and apply it to more difficult scales? Kilian explains it all!
