Course Syllabus
I. Allegro calmato
In this first lesson, Anna Hashimoto gives a brief history of Horovitz and the sonatina and guides us through this lyrical and jazzy Allegro calmato movement. She shows you how the dynamics of this movement informs phrasing and emphasizes the importance of focusing on the character of the tempi rather than exactly what is marked, which will be particularly important when practicing faster sections.
II. Lento, quasi andante
In this second lesson, Anna Hashimoto guides you throug how to give emphasis to important articulations in this beautiful second movement of the Horovitz Sonatina. She also guides you on how to approach the intonation of this movement, with fingerings included, as it is one of the trickiest aspects to mastering its sound.
III. Con brio
In this final lesson, Anna Hashimoto helps you take on the fun, whimsical Con brio movement, giving you tips on how to practice rhythms for more effective phrasing and leaning into articulations that will emphasize the jazzier elements of this movement.
